Psychosocial Recovery Coaching

"Support to work through challenges, build independence and move towards what matters to you."

What is Psychosocial Recovery Coaching?

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is an NDIS support for people living with psychosocial disability.

Psychosocial disability is when the effects of a mental health condition make everyday activities or taking part in work, study, relationships or the community more difficult.

A Recovery Coach can help you manage everyday challenges, understand and organise your supports, connect with services and build the skills and confidence to have greater choice and independence in your life.

Recovery looks different for everyone. Your support is shaped around your NDIS goals, strengths, preferences and circumstances.

How can a Recovery Coach help?

Depending on what matters to you, your Recovery Coach may support you to:

  • understand your NDIS plan and organise your supports
  • turn your NDIS goals into practical, manageable steps
  • build routines and manage appointments or everyday responsibilities
  • prepare for meetings and express what you want
  • find and connect with NDIS, health, mental health and community services
  • work through changes or setbacks when things are not going to plan
  • build your ability to manage more of your own supports
  • work towards goals involving community, relationships, housing, study, work or greater independence.

This might mean planning your week, preparing for an NDIS meeting, reconnecting with a community activity, exploring housing options or finding a service that better suits you.

Recovery Coaching and Support Coordination

Recovery Coaching and Support Coordination can help with some of the same things, such as understanding your NDIS plan, finding services and organising supports.

Recovery Coaching is specifically for people living with psychosocial disability and has a stronger focus on personal recovery, managing everyday challenges, building skills and confidence, and becoming more independent over time.

Most people will have funding for either Recovery Coaching or Support Coordination rather than both. If your NDIS plan includes both, the roles should be clear so the two supports can work together without duplicating the same tasks.

How we work with you

The right working relationship matters. We take time to understand your communication style, support needs, preferences and what is important to you before matching you with a Recovery Coach.

We focus on your strengths, respect your choices and work at a pace that makes sense for you. With your consent, we can also work alongside the people and services you want involved in your support.

We place a strong emphasis on thoughtful matching, consistency, clear communication and follow-through.

Recovery Coaching and mental health care

Recovery Coaching is practical NDIS support. It is not therapy, counselling, psychology, psychiatry, medical treatment or crisis response.

Your Recovery Coach can help you stay connected with health and mental health services and work alongside them where useful.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000.

Funding and getting started

Recovery Coaching needs to be funded through your NDIS plan. If you’re unsure whether you have funding available, we can help you understand what is included in your plan.

You can refer yourself, make a referral with someone you trust, or ask another person or service to refer you.
